Hello, welcome to Poetry Friday (I need a better name for it!). This was the poem I wrote on October 22, the first day of my poem-a-day challenge for myself. I figured it was an acceptable first poem to share. Enjoy, and let me know what you think!
A poem a day?
How can I say
What I’m feeling
When the whole world’s reeling?
Buddhists speak of a middle road,
But I carry an impossible load.
Can’t step in the same river twice?
What if it’s frozen ice?
Just watch me try –
You’ll see me fly!
The only constant in life may be change,
But in my life I’ll rearrange
Every piece and every part
To as long as possible protect my heart
From the agony of despair, of woe.
Sometimes I bask in a sunlit glow;
As some may say –
A sunshine ray.
But a darker side I keep as well,
A part that seems straight from hell.
It comes all at once – a sneak attack
And just as sudden my sunshine’s back.
Up and down, so quick, so fast!
I wish the sunny days would last.
But even sunlight burns me too
And just as well it’s quickly through.
Breathing easy, I think now is calm –
Sweet stillness over me like a balm.
